Knowledge is Power!

When you speak with someone who is ignorant on a subject that you are an expert on, they think that it is magical that you know so much about the given subject. This is clearly not magic. Doing your own research is mandatory.

When someone is successful or knowledgeable about a topic, most people automatically assume that there is some reason for this besides the effort of that person. “They have how much money? They did what?” is how it starts. Then this person makes the claim that it is because of luck, or good fortune, or someone else hooked them up or some other reason. Trying to discredit the effort and the success of the other person.

This drives me nuts. If a person is in the position that you would like to be, why put them down? Most of the time if a person is putting down a successful person, it is out of his/her own insecurities.

Take Ownership Over Your Goals

If you have goals or aspirations, take action towards achieving them. Often the hardest part of being successful is actually starting to work towards the goals. One thing that I always preach is taking the time to sit down and write out your goals. This is a psychological trick to play on yourself. Once you have the goals in writing, it is less of a hurdle to start working toward them. For me, the most important aspect of writing goals down is breaking each one up and writing exactly how to obtain each goal.

This takes a lot of stress off of yourself and makes achieving success easier. Think about it, if you have your goals written out and know exactly how you are going to achieve each goal, the hardest parts have already been taken care of. You will be much less likely to reach a goal if you have no idea where to start. I think this goes without saying.

Research, Research, Research

You wouldn’t start writing a business plan without doing research first right? Well, I hope you wouldn’t. The fact is that the amount of time you spend researching is directly related to your success.

One thing that I am starting to come to grips with is the amount of free information there is on the internet. There are so many people making an incredible amount of money online. It is almost scary. I want to be one of them. I am however a newbie in comparison to them. The biggest difference? Knowledge. Plain and simple.

I need to be playing catch-up. I want to always be in the mindset that “everyone” knows more than I do, therefore I need to work harder than them to be able to compete. This is the only way that I will be able to accomplish my goals. I therefore am reading one book every two weeks and am constantly searching out information and people online.
