About
My name is Josh Mullineaux and I am a 22-year old personal banker, business owner, and full-time student. I am currently attending Arizona State University and I am scheduled to graduate this Fall with my degree in marketing.
My Life Philosophy
In 2004, I moved to Arizona from my home state of Washington. When I first moved to Arizona, I learned a hard lesson about managing my personal finances. I moved down here with $12,500 from the sale of my 1973 Ford Bronco, but unfortunately, I spent most of that money in the first 6 months. After that experience, I knew I had to take my finances more seriously.
It was then that I realized I needed to take money much more seriously. At that time, I wanted to make as much money as possible, and since I had 3 months of prior sales experience (internship with Enterprise Rent-A-Car), I got a job at Circuit City. Very shortly after, I quit Circuit City and started working as a salesperson at Sprint making $36k a year.
Sprint was an interesting learning experience because I dealt with a wide-variety of people. As a result, my sales skills sharpened significantly. Every so often, an irate customer would come into the store, and I would have to turn him/her into a sale. After 1 month of working there, I managed to be one of the top salesmen in the store and top ten in Arizona.
One day at Sprint, unbeknownst to me, I assisted the regional business banker from JP Morgan Chase. She offered me a job as a licensed personal banker on the spot. Within two weeks, I had already had my first interview and in the month, I was hired.
This was exactly the job I wanted at the time because I was able to learn a great deal about the banking, investing, financial industry. Investing and finance management has always been very interesting to me, especially after my previous financial debacle.
I strongly believe that anything worth obtaining is going to be difficult. Put more simply, my philosophy in life is “pain before pleasure.” This means working hard, enduring the pain, and enjoying the benefits later. This philosophy has put me through four tough years of both working full-time and going to school full-time. Although it has not been easy, I feel like I am going to be far better off in the long run now that I have quality job experience along with my education, instead of just a degree.
My Aspirations
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to run my own business. One of my favorite books of all-time is “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. If you have not read that book, I highly recommend you check it out. Kiyosaki says it is more important what you learn from your job than the pay you will receive.
The education and work experience I have received thus far has prepared me well to run my own business. Currently, my business partner, Nate, and I are running two businesses, infinFX, a Scottsdale web development company, and The Scottsdale Review, a local business journal.
Why Am I Blogging?
My goal for this blog is to provide informative articles on business, financial, and personal development. I am also blogging to meet and share knowledge with other motivated entrepreneurs. I would also like to use my work experience in banking and finance to educate others about how to be financially responsible and accomplish their monetary and life goals.
If you would like to contact me to discuss finance, business, or personal development, feel free to reach me using the contact form on my page.
Update 8/18/07
I have recently quit my job at Chase! This is a huge step for me as most of you can imagine. I look forward to sharing my journey of entrepreneurship with you. I have little to no experience on the web but I like trying and experiencing new things. I have several ventures that I will involve myself in and then chronicle them on my blog, including:
Affiliate Marketing
Adwords/Adsense Campaigns
Arbitrage
To be continued…
Update 1/15/08
It is the new year already. Time to reflect for a second and start blogging again! 2007 was one of the craziest years of my life without a doubt and it definitely pulled me in directions I did not anticipate. I got a great job, that I enjoyed (Licesnsed banker at JP Morgan Chase), before graduating from ASU. I then quit my job before completing a year there. I started Unique Blog Designs with Matt and Nate. I also graduated from college! Whew!
I wonder whats in store for 2008? (besides continuing to work 80 weeks…)
