What Did You Accomplish Today? What Did You Struggle With Today?

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

stepsThis a very important question. Making short term goals to accomplish on a day-to-day basis can be a great tool to get organized. Sometimes, at the end of the day, I find myself wishing that there were more hours left in the day in order to get done what I wanted. Constant review of the days accompishments and let downs are crucial in achieving long lerm success, which we all want, right?

What did you do correct today?

Another important aspect of this concept is “patting your self on the back” for a job well done. I am sometomes to hard on myself and can get discouraged. However if I make a constant effort to recognize things that I do well, I will not get descouraged.

What could I have Done Better?

What mistakes did you make today? Remember that any misstake can be learned from and in turn become a posititve experience. Most entrepreunuer will agree learning from failures is critical to success.

Five tips to help accomplishing goals, long and short term

Be specific as possilbe when naming goals
Elaborate cincisely on how to accomplish each goal. Include estimated time required to complete the goal.
Set goals that are resonable to accomplish. The more goals you reach and the more confident you become.
Be Flexible. Long-term goals tend to fluxuate and change more than short-term for obvious reasons.
Do NOT be afraid to fail. Learning from your misstakes are the most important aspect concering failing to accomplish you goals.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

How to Get Investors…

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

investIn the past I have had several business ideas that I thought had potential. Not one of the ideas had the right mixture behind it. Now that I am on the brink, with a couple investors, it is in my best interest, and in my company’s best interest, to prepare well for our presentation. Here are 10 steps my team and I have come up with:

1. State what problem you’re solving, why is it so compelling, how you are going to solve it, and exactly how you make money doing it.

2. Fully disclose your management team. List their credentials and how they positively effect the team.

3. What is your target market? Invetsors will want to know the size and scope.

4. Give an example of the way your customers currently solve the problem.

5.Give a more detailed report on how your company solves the problem, and explain the marketing plan.

6. Disclose who, if anyone else, is contributing to the company or is associated, that might give your company a competitive advantage?

7. Who is your competition? What are their strengths and weaknesses, how do they compare to yours, and how do you plan to retain long-term sustainability?

8. Be prepared to say what you have accomplished thus far.

9. If you are going to ask for funds, be prepared to explain what the funds will be used for, disclose how you plan to be profitable and how soon. Investor will probably want to know your estimates are year over year. They might also want to know how much market share you hope to clam and by how soon.

10.Just like the article Nate Whitehill posted, you cannot be afraid to ask for what you want. Towards the end of the presentation, disclose the amount you are requesting.

I would like to hear people’s stories and recommendations. Please don’t hesitate to explain how you prepared.

As Time Marches On…

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

shake itMy businesses lately have been taking off much sooner than expected. The cliche of saying, “Going from nothing to something” definitely applies to infinFX right now. It truly amazes me the developments that have occurred in the last six months. “As time marches on,” I am realizing the importance of certain concepts that I have heard thousands of times, but failed to directly apply them to my businesses, before now.

The concepts I am referring to are:

1. Importance of branding
2. Protecting your assets
3. Put the customer first
4. Working with/hiring people who are smarter/more skilled than you are
5. It’s not what you know, its who you know

When starting to work on a venture, you’re so concentrated on developing sales/development, you might forget to take a step back and realize fundamentally what is happening.

The strength that having a good brand can have on a business is incredible. Having a good brand allows customers, and potential customers to identify your company. A brand can also create individuality and personality for a company.

We’ll delve deeper into these issues tomorrow…

Executive Header Decision

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

lightbulbAfter careful consideration, I decided to change my blog header. Several of my fellow bloggers were making recommendations to change my header for numerous reasons.

1. Too many other blogs use cars to look like John Chow.
2. Your header needs to coincide with the image you are going for.
3. I need to make my blog look as professional as possible.
4. Increase reader base and traffic.

My roommate/business partner/best friend Nate Whitehill just wrote an article explaining in detail the importance of picking the most appropriate header. The article, “What Does Your Header Image Say About You?” explains in detail why you should take choosing your header image seriously. I choose my first header image, a white 997 gt3, mostly because I liked the car and how the imaged looked on my page. As Nate and another fellow blogger Roger Anderson from modernmagellans.com brought to my attention, the picture of the car may not give my readers the right impression.

I want to express professionalism and motivation in my image. I think the picture of downtown Hong Kong does that, as well as gives a sneak peak into our latest venture that we will be writing about in the months to come.

Nate gives a great site to find images to use on your blog. I recommend going to stock exchange in order to get a good idea of some possibilities.

Here are some helpful tips on choosing the right header image brought to you courtesy of Nate Whitehill

    Tips on Choosing a Header

    1. I would advise you to stop using stock header images. Thousands of people use the same header image. Do you want your blog to be confused with other, similar-looking blogs? I know that when I go to a blog that looks unmodified, my first reaction is that the blogger has nothing unique to say because s/he didn’t take the time to change its look.
If you don’t know how to change your header photo, then ask someone to help you. (I would be happy to offer assistance here.) It is actually VERY easy and can be done in as little as five minutes.

    2. Use an eye-catching photo to get people’s attention. Remember, this is usually the first image people see when they get to your site. If it is not eye-catching, people may not even read your content because your site did not catch their attention. Don’t settle - choose a GREAT photo!

    3. Select your image for reasons other than you just like the photo. Photos communicate information on many levels. It is important to put serious thought into what your photo says about you.

    4. Consider using a photo of yourself in your blog. I think there is a lot of power in putting a “face” to your blog. One key way of improving your blog stickiness is to make yourself more familiar. If readers see your face and read your writing more than twice, they will start to feel as if they know you. That is key when trying to build strong readership.

Choosing the right header image is critical in developing your site, creating legitimacy, and increase viewer-ship. Let me know what you guys think of my new image.
